Legacy at Sea is billed as “The Ultimate Sandbox Pirate Adventure” by DPH Games Inc. I had the privilege of playing it with one of the fellow staff members here at GenCon 2024. Since I’ve never reviewed boardgames here before, I wanted to go ahead and post my first board game review with my experience doing the demo of Legacy at Sea.
Like I said, I played this at GenCon 2024 with Dan, their lead designer, during their kickstarter. DPH has excellent team with a sense of humor and a very chill, laid back vibes to them (bright yellow shirts, Hawaiian bucket hats — reminds me a lot of my dad).
Excellent mobility in this game. Combat’s clean and the economics makes the victory point mechanics rather diverse for the folks you’re competing against. I played as Stede Bonnet because I’ve written a fictional version of that historical pirate into my work a long, long time ago — as many of you know — so that’s the primary impetus for logging the experience here. Loved the chance to play this at what was (functionally) an otherwise writing, film, business, and puppet focused conference for me.
Here’s their kickstarter if you’re interested in hearing more:
