What we could have been is lost forever,
muted and mangled in unborn time.
A darkness, the deepness of false memory
is all that remains of your potential smile.
We will never taste of that August sky,
shared in a strong and whipping wind,
or walk together on that forgotten ground
where bright minutes tremblingly thrill.
What we could have been is lost forever,
our wild dance on the edge of an abyss.
A new life, a way of being in ourselves,
we had dreamed together, had nearly grasped
in an almost world, in an almost time.
The stars are turning in that wheel of night
that moves me through the seasons of life
and always, without end, turns me back to you.
