The next story as we approach the end of Advent and the beginning Christmas.
A couple points of housekeeping:
- This story uses a particular word we find offensive in nowadays, but which few found offensive at the turn of the last century when this story was written. To discredit the point of this story simply because of the usage of this word would actually defeat the purpose of your offense, for this story is about a refusal to take things at face-value, racism or racial superiority included. I got the idea to read this one from Doberman’s comment.
- I won’t apologize for this one, but I will forewarn you: like the Hughes story and the Powey story, I use an accent–a terrible, British accent. I did it because this is the way I’d read it to my siblings and cousins at Christmas were I reading this story to them. The point of sharing these stories is to create Christmas spirit, not create Oscar-winning performance. Apologies to any voice actors who stumble upon this one.
- My audio editor is on the fritz today so this one suffers from poor quality compared to the others.
I think I have officially unsold all but the most committed Chesterton fans. Perhaps that’s a good thing.
Enjoy:
