My earliest and most favorite collaborator — Brandon Goostree — released this coloring book pumpkin on the front cover of his halloween coloring pages for adults and kids. There’s a great blend of scary halloween coloring and funnier stuff for kids. I asked him a few questions as the artists and kids from our Third Saturday event colored some of his pages.
Lancelot Schaubert: What motivated you to do a coloring book?
Brandon Goostree: I wanted a personal project that was attainable and ran across artists doing coloring books and thought I’d try it out.

LS: Have you colored books often?
BG: Nope I only ever color personal illustrations I do.

LS: What was the first sketch you made?
BG: The very first image in the book with the monster and the kid dressed as the monster.

LS: Awesome. And what about ever? In your history as an illustrator.
BG: That… I have no idea. I remember making a lot of cool spot comics back when I was a kid. I don’t know why I decided to latch onto the 7up logo mascot but I did.

LS: Do you have any drawings that you’re proudest of?
BG: None that I can think of. The moment it’s done and it sits for a bit you see what you could of done better, but it’s not worth going back to, so onto the next.

LS: What do you think sketches can give to the world? Can they reveal any truths? Or point to beauty? Or move people to be better, to be more real and really good?
BG: I think to create is fundamental to being human. It’s something we’ve been doing since forever. So I’m just creating because I feel the need to. What can come from it, I have no idea. I just create to share like many did before me.

LS: What do you hope the viewer or end user or reader will get from this?
BG: Some sort of enjoyment!
