“Come in, watchmen. Come in, sentries.”

 

“Who is that?” Krif Lūwof asked Krif Tayfyet, lifting his own generic onyx compass.

 

“This is Hollow Needle sending out a distress signal. The tap has been breached by well-armed, well-trained, extremely dangerous weavers who have taken hostage the entirety of the collected ambassadors of the Common Realms.”

 

Krif Lūwof growled and whispered, “The man who killed my son. Where is he?”

 

The blue-suited, brass-buttoned guard lookalike said, “He’s using a signal booster. There’s no chance otherwise.”

 

Krif Lūwof looked between the blue-suit and Krif Tayfyet.

 

Who looked out at the crowd, searching

 

Krif Lūwof looked past his master’s gaze through the window and saw the onyx vein. “The observatory,” he said. “There’s even more onyx down below. He’s pooling the onyx like a bucket of power.” He was off toward the descender.

 

Krif Tayfyet said, “Lūwof!”
