Greater Reason

No thing on earth but man
is complete and whole
given form and conscience
and soul,
made just so
for a greater reason
than surviving countless season.
What other worries itself
with choice,
concerned with wrong or right
or knows that power
making day and night
or can even wonder
about seeing beyond its sight?

No,
no thing on earth but man is man
and made just so
for a greater reason—
to need and want and find
the eternal season.
