You Are Not an Idolatrous Creature of the Earth
Imperatives

Name definitively
the body parts
of a tree. A possibility becomes possible

In becoming distinct. It’s hard to say:
Today the sky is the shape of corpse.

The collapsible
shape of corpse, the perverse
absence of the storm coming, feel

Your body like a rock or a function of this.
                                Unnatural as a child’s backwards
                                                                E.

What is the terrible thing
about nature, that dark thing at its center,
which we sense, but cannot see?

If it is that it has banished us,
                                                  rather than
                                that we have abandoned it,

Then we are all fools
sprawled tender in the forest. Apart
as many foreign countries’ rains.

What map is there through, of
the many maps, the map which is always

The vascular, which mimics
the roots. We find it
on our palms, we press it to our hearts,

Find it on your palm. Press it
                                to your heart. Move

With and through the impossibility
of the world which infinitely includes you.
