REFORGED MATRIMONY

After his divorce from Aphrodite,
Hephaestus, lame god of the forge,
re-wed Aglaea, goddess of beauty.
She was the youngest of the Three Graces,
and it was her job to attend to Aphrodite.

Conspicuous in garment of the groom,
Hephaestus paces the halls, limping.
Aglaea, gargling in the bathroom,
will take several more hours primping.
Heph slaved at his forge so she’d be adorned
to perfection upon her wedding day.
All previous regalia was now scorned
and wouldn’t have done for her, anyway.
Put on display like this, nowhere to hide,
if she had eons, she wouldn’t feel sure.
She is Grace herself but, as second bride
to her former-boss’ ex,            insecure.
The gods attend not just to see her wed
but judge how she’ll fill Aphrodite’s bed.
