Perfection placed in broken arms that day
You came out screaming, wrinkled, pink, and breathed
Relief, for you, miraculous new babe
Were proof God watched, still cared something for me.
Your garden chime echoed beyond the door,
A Christening gift. “Watch over her heart,”
It whispered. “She’s your little girl but more,
She’s ours always, on loan, heaven’s fine art.”
Today you crawled home crying all was lost
A name you scrolled along margins, red ink
Proclaiming true love, this named boy had tossed
Your homemade rose like trash, ruinous stink.
My girl, you long for spring, but bend your will
Stay grounded, for flowers once plucked soon wilt.
