Rejection Letter Fail

Therapeutic to watch a writer tweak this rejection email sent CC: by mistake from agent to 238 of us:#amwriting #fail pic.twitter.com/MRF2qhFf

(This email thread went on for hours as we all bantered back and forth about it. They call themselves “The 238”).

As one of the happy 238, this has made my week!

    1. lanceschaubert

mine too. Most absurd agent thing ever.

  2. dianamunozstewart

238 has a voice, many voices. Thanks for using yours, Lance!

You’re welcome. Thanks for stopping by, Diana.

As one of the Happy 238, I salute you all! I can’t email the whole lot of you and don’t want to take the time to copy thirty addresses at a pop. I suggest we collect ourselves into groups by genre and form writers’ feedback groups to help each other. Maybe we can make our works more marketable by working with each other.

    1. lanceschaubert

And I you. That’d be really cool depending on the experience of the writers involved. What do you do, odirony?

      1. odirony

I’m doing YA fiction at the moment.

        1. lanceschaubert

          Awesome. Fantasy? Mystery? Literary?

        2. odirony

It’s a mystery/adventure with hints of budding romance

          1. lanceschaubert

            Like Rear Window?

        3. odirony

LOL, no not exactly. Girl might like boy. Boy might like boy. And in the meantime everyone’s trying not to be shot, kidnapped or killed.

        4. lanceschaubert

Ah, cool. Sounds fun. Any MacGuffin?

        5. odirony

          Yeah, actually there are two.

          1. lanceschaubert

Sweet! Would you hate me if I asked what they are?

        6. odirony

No. A giant fish (no whale), a stranger in an abandoned mansion, (actually, there are three), smuggled crates.

        7. lanceschaubert

Sounds interesting. Reminds me of Big Fish at first blush, which is a compliment. \

      2. odirony

Thanks for the compliment. I have to go offline at the mo, but I quite enjoy your flattering interest. 😀

        1. lanceschaubert

Hey, I figure if we can’t ask each other about our work, then what the heck are we doing?

          Peace.

I am one of the poor souls of Writer House’s wrath.

I’m another of the 238, and to all the 238 I say check your email. (Yes, again!)

Print mag offer to do a story on us?

    1. lanceschaubert

Yeah, I saw that. I entered my info and offered to do the article. We’ll see what turns up.

  8. Author Kristen Lamb

Too funny! Yes, this is a WANA moment. Go 238!

    1. lanceschaubert

Seriously crazy. Thanks for stopping by, KL.

  9. Donelle Lacy

Hi! I still say we should crop out the poor assistant’s name, but otherwise, this is made of win! Here’s my blog post about it: http://dverted.blogspot.com/2012/03/funny-but-true-query-story.html

I love all the networking this has provided us. Just too fun!

    1. lanceschaubert

Fixed it. Don’t do internet on the weekends. Thanks Donelle. And thanks for stopping by!

The many. The proud. The 238.

Stuck somewhere between despair and encouragement. As usual.

But at least, for once, stuck together.

    1. lanceschaubert

Yeah, I’ve started getting encouraged one way or another.

Rejection = encouragement to go back to the drawing board.
Acceptance = encouragement to press on.
