Engineers use SciFi writers to revive American Innovation

Hieroglyph is a space for SciFi writers, engineers, scientists, and artists to collaborate on creative, ambitious visions of the near-future. Neal Stephenson noticed a serious void in the optimism of science so he helped create an online collaborative between the people who dream things up and the people who make dreams real. Right now, they’ve developed a concept for the tallest tower in the world — one that reaches 15 kilometers into the stratosphere — all built out of steel:

Check out the pitch from Neal Stephenson himself. Granted, his voice is a bit laid back, but if you focus on the content, you’ll soon find that this could be a great time to be a fiction writer:

Love this site, and I’m a bit surprised I’ve never seen it before! This is why the museum where I work themes our First Friday events on the spaces where science fiction and “real” science meet. There is nothing like getting together a group of science nerds with a group of science fiction nerds to get great ideas flowing! We are also working on some other creativity projects right now. All of that to say, this website may really come in handy. Thanks for sharing!
